Super Bowl Sunday is this coming Sunday and the talk of the week seems to be what team everyone is rooting for. However, what if I told you that you could be a part of a much bigger team that needs your help now, more than ever? The Grateful Garment Project’s Pack-It-Forward program is in the process of restoring dignity to commercially sexually exploited children and human sex trafficking victims. Now, more than ever we’re in need of donations. Last quarter, we focused on the need for new sweatshirts. This week in the final quarter of our Pack-It-Forward program, we are in need of new sports bras in time for Sports Bra Sunday!
Generally, TGGP collects sports bras in various sizes to give to Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) facilities year round, as well as agencies that rescue sex trafficking victims. Although sports bras are generally used for exercising purposes, often people wear them to feel comfortable. A regular bra can sometimes feel revealing and not as supportive as a sports bra. And they can be especially useful if a victim was injured in the breast area. Sports bras are essential in completement of the Pack-it-Forward backpacks that will be used by agencies to give to rescued victims.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, TGGP volunteers filled donated backpacks with essential items from all the previous quarters including sweatpants, sweatshirts, and other useful items (see list below). The project turned out to be a huge success with 175 backpacks filled!
We are so close to our goal of 250 backpacks by Sports Bra Sunday. There is still time for you to offer your support! If you are interested in donating new backpacks, new sports bras, new sweatshirts, and new sweatpants, along with the items listed below, they can be mailed directly to 1821 S. Bascom Avenue, #206, Campbell, CA 95008, or dropped off at our San Jose office at 1777 Hamilton Avenue, Suite 2010, San Jose. Call (408)-674-5744 for hours. Please join The Grateful Garment Project in restoring dignity to victims of sexual violence.
We would also greatly appreciate donations of the following items:
- Books to facilitate healing, “Girls Like Us” or “Runaway Girl”
- Journals or notebooks
- Small bottles of hand sanitizer
- Small flashlights
- Comfort items, such as a travel pillow
